OUR STORY

Year after year we have had students who struggled with processing and answering word problems. And it’s no wonder they do. Most of our students need to be able to solve all 4 types of word problems (joining, separating, part-part-whole, and comparing) with the unknown in all positions. This is no easy task. We learned that we need to TEACH our students the different word problem types and give them LOTS of practice solving problems. Once we began to do this, as well as incorporate number talks and numberless word problems, our students’ abilities to solve word problems soared to new heights.
