Are you looking for an interactive, integrated, engaging social studies unit to teach your students about Martin Luther King, Jr.? If so, this is it!
This 7 day unit is great to use while teaching students about black history, or any time of the year. We have integrated social studies, reading, close reading, vocabulary development, a comprehension strategy (Determining Importance), phonics, writing, and art all in a 7 day unit that is highly interactive.
We strive to make our products as low prep as possible, but in our experience it seems a little prep goes a long way in regards to happy, engaged learners who remember the experiences we create for them (most of this unit is print and go, but the art project does require prep, as does the Determining Importance lesson).
We also strive to take all the “guess work” out of how to plan your unit and have created very detailed lesson plans for you to follow if you choose. Your students will love learning all about this amazing man, and you will love having a highly engaging unit all planned out and ready to go!
This 7 day unit contains the following:
-A “To Do” List (for prepping and organization of materials)
-A Unit Overview (to give a glimpse of the 7 day unit)
-An Anticipatory Set (to get students excited about this unit)
-Discussion Cards / Vocabulary Cards (to build background)
-Song (to build background)
-Craftivity (fun but purposeful as students record their learning on it)
-Story (5 page story about Martin Luther King, Jr.)
-Comprehension Lessons/Activities on Determining Importance
-Sorting Activity to Support Determining Importance Lesson
-Writing Activity
Wishing you joyful engagement in your primary classroom!
