This leprechaun mini-unit makes St. Patrick’s Day VERY easy to plan for, VERY fun for students, and VERY easy to integrate themed-learning into the day. It is designed for both teachers who want a flowing, motivating unit for a day of learning and fun AND for teachers who are looking for some extra resources to add to what they already do for St. Patrick’s Day.
*Letter from Leo the Leprechaun to capture students’ attention and build anticipation for the day’s activities.
*I Spy Game -“Leo’s I Spy Game” is a fun and novel way to build background about leprechauns
*Chant – “The Leprechaun Jig” is a fun reading activity to get students dancing like a leprechaun.
*Student Storybook – “Leo’s Visit” is a story about a fun-loving leprechaun who visits a classroom. Interaction is built in by having students Partner Talk to answer questions and highlight key details in the text to support their answers.
*Story Sequencing Cut & Paste activity for the story “Leo’s Visit”.
*Craft – Students make a paper Bobblehead leprechaun that is also a snack holder.
*Snack Ideas – Very simple and inexpensive ideas.
*Writing Activity – After completing a prewriting page, students write a simple paragraph about a little leprechaun.
* Math Task – “Leprechaun Equality” engages students in using a given set of numbers to make equal expressions. Lot’s of thinking required, that’s for sure! 🙂
Wishing you joyful engagement in your primary classroom!
